But until then, my thesis film, The Terrible Thing of Alpha-9! is now on Cartoon Brew for hopefully everyone to see! Hope you enjoy.
In the spirit of the thesis that's totally over, here are the beginning designs and super rough ideas of backgrounds before I started laying out and animating. They don't even look like the same characters to me now after they've changed through animating. Thanks to everyone who's seen it so far!

I watched this today on cartoon brew. It's pretty incrediable. I enjoy ed it a lot. Really glad I came across it. I'm going to tell everyone
Definitely a favorite of mine. Beautiful to look at from beginning to end. Thanks for posting the character sketches and background stuff as well.
glad i finally got to see it.
Great stuff Jake!
via cartoon brew.. Your short is one of the best new animations I've seen! Besides the great design, the storytelling is really strong to me - and imo the hardest to genuinely pull off in drawn animation without being too distracting. I'd definitely like to keep following your work :)
Really fantastic short! love everything about it! congrats!
I just watched this over at Bob Cesca's site. Fantastic job! I especially liked your sound -- the bouncing monster, the exploding head, the lasers, etc. all sounded PERFECT. Great storytelling!
Great! Fantastic Job
Jake I saw your fantastic animation short via cartoon brew, and it made my week! I really wish that monster were real. I'd make it my pet and hopefully not die as a result. Do you do comics aside from animation? Your stuff kind of reminds me of Neil Swaab, but it's definitely your own.
Hey thanks guys! Actually i love Neil's work, he does really excellent illustrations. Reminding people of him is a big compliment!
Fantastic stuff Jake!! I really dig your work my friend!
Jake-
just watched the cartoon. It is FANTASTIC.
What software did you use to animate? After Effects?
Great work. You'll obviously have a long, illustrious career.
beautiful work here! saw you on cartoon brew as well. I'm a new fan.
nice stuff !!!
Kyle: Thanks!!! I used Flash to animate it frame by frame and After effects just to composite the parts together.
that's really great!! the caracters, the backgorund, the action, the script, the sound... is there anything more? ah of course the typography and the name of the movie. great job!
Yo Jake! I just did a little posting for ya on CGHUB! Keep up the great work man.

Cool story, amazing and very stylish work!
Greetings from Moscow!
Wow. that was completely awesome! all that work definitely payed off!
hey dude.
just watched your thesis finally. what can i say? excellent work!! i actually laughed, and for once, it wasnt AT an SVA thesis film...it was WITH it. imagine that?
cohesive design/art direction. nicely dispersed animation-i say that because i can see the money shots that you poured over, but you used specific animation short cuts on the filler scenes that worked well and didnt make it look stupid. they looked good. it was like if an episode of twilight zone and a pixar short had sex.
i literally laughed out loud at two parts-1-when the hunter shoots at him with his phaser gun for the second time, and the monster is really happy, and his bottom right eyelid is like up a little bit..nice touch. 2-toward the end, when the guy's head explodes and the monster picks him up with his mouth. there was just something hilarious about that whole scene.
theres also a scene in the middle where the monster and the guy are interacting-the monster is like all happy and the guy is freakin out kinda...that is some nice work. that was a money shot.
anyway, congrats on the film and the exposure. you deserve it. on the first day of animation class, marty told us that only like 10% of the students in the class would actually make it in the industry. i knew youd be one of them. good luck man.
Woohoo! Jake!\(0w0)/
