screenprint for sale!

hey guys, i've been figuring out how to screenprint recently with the lovely people at post expose in brooklyn, and i just finished a 13x19 4-color print. i made an edition of 40, which i'm selling if anyone's interested, for $30 (+$10 shipping, unless you're in the nyc area). also, there are about 20 more prints that are less than perfect for less $$.  to make it confusing, i used 3 different papers to test it out.  my favorite is the beige, but all of them turned out really awesome.

email me if you're interested and we can set up some kind of paypal thing and i'll get it sent out to you. thanks!

See what I've been up to all year!

I finally updated my demo reel to show the last modge-podge year and a half of work I've been up to. This is just the animation and direction work, unfortunately there's none of the storyboarding work here. The song is from the Black lips. Enjoy!

kids are the best audience ever

My Film was recently screened in A small Festival in La Roche Sur Yon, France, and apparently the Children's Jury there decided to write me a letter telling me how much they liked my film. This is so cool dude, adults would never do this!

Dear Mister Amstrong,
we really loved your movie. When we were told that it was your first movie, we were really impressed : it looked really good! The movie is really funny, we all loved the idea of saying that the monster could be really nice! We were really moved when it was alone with all the bodies of the space invadors he would have loved to play longer with!
We really hope that you will make another movie because this one was great, and we are already looking forward to watch it!
Sincerely,

La Roche Sur Yon's Child Jury

Original Message:

Cher Monsieur Amstrong,
Cordialement,

Le Jury Adolescent du Festival International du Film de La Roche Sur Yon

finally colored...

i drew this one in may, finally inked it in june, and have been dicking around with the color ever since.  i feel that it's either as good as it can get or just needs to be done, but either way i'm pretty happy with it i think.  it was done across two pages of a 3x5 sketchbook.  let me know what you think!

talking to myself

this was taken from a sketchook in january. i kinda felt like i was drawing the same thing, characters lackadaisically standing and doing nothing, so i started drawing them telling me what i'm doing wrong, hoping it could help me try to expand a bit. unfortunately other characters would answer with silly excuses.

OLD FANGS by Adrien Merigeau

this is easily my favorite cartoon i've seen this year, and now that it's online i feel everyone should see it as well. it was produced at Cartoon Saloon, a really incredible studio in Ireland.

Rooftop Films on Kickstarter

Hey guys, a screening I was in recently and one of the coolest film screening setups I've seen in NYC is currently raising money on Kickstarter to keep their amazing program open year-round. This includes cool new locations, including an abandoned subway tunnel. The donation page is only up for 5 more days, and if you donate $30 or more, you get a "Best Of" DVD with my film on it. Sounds like something that would be really awesome and you should do if you love watching amazing films in picturesque locations for cheaper than a movie ticket in NYC and Brooklyn. I wouldn't ask you unless it were an amazing opportunity.

And here's a screen-cap from what I'm working on right now. Enjoy!

too many barbarian guys

here's a barbarian lady

(once again, I updated my blog address. please update your links!)

another barbarian and a new blog address!

hope this doesn't get too confusing me changing up the web address, but i made jakehatesyou when i thought nobody would visit it. now people seem to visit a good deal and i get a sour face from them every time they see the address, so i thought i'd go for something a little more simple and not possibly mistakenly mean. please update your links!

and to celebrate, a sketchbook page of a barbarian with a bob haircut. hope you enjoy.

quick drawing

here's a flash doodle, this one is of a barbarian. i honestly can't believe it's been over a month since the last post. lately i've traveled to a few festivals and seen lots of really great and inspiring cartoons, and it's only made me draw more and more. i have no reason not to be scanning sketchbook pages. hopefully i'll fill up to my promises and put some of those up.

IF YOU'RE IN NY MAY 28th

Please come to the rooftop films screening on a rooftop in the Lower East Side. My film's playing there along with the Dark Toons program, Friday the 28th. Doors at 8, music, screening at 9, and free drinks after. I'd recommend picking up an advance ticket for ten bones. I hope to see you there!

walk cycle...

in january and february, i had a flash document that was kind of my digital sketchbook that i'd pull up whenever bored and at my computer. it's full of half-done animations and doodles, and here's one of them.

on a side-note, i REALLY need to calibrate my cintiq. that looks so washed out!

it's been a while

here's my second attempt at painting with ink. the only thing that i really don't like about it is that the dude ended up looking a lot less serious, and more regal than anything. and i don't really care much for regal looks. but here it is, it still looks okay to me the next day.

also i'm going to try to post more, promise. i have a lot of stuff backed up from the prior months that i'm going to put up intermittently.
