some spots and interviews

sorry to flood these things out, but this week has been loaded with the online release of three spots i worked on and two interviews.

the first interview I did on a website a while back, but since the website went defunct, it was put up with some new questions at Strange Kid's Club, called Tripping The Intergalactic Fantastic.

Next I did an interview with Asifa East a few days ago that has a picture of me with snow on it.

this is a really beautiful spot i helped my friends at Tiny Invetions do for Ralph Lauren. i did all the cute animal animation pre-watercoloring.

the next two are BBQ ads that will be projected onto buildings at SXSW for free BBQ. they're pretty gross, and were written up on Cartoon Brew. Can you spot which scenes I did?

that's it for now!

prints and posters post

hey all! here's a roller derby poster i just did for these girls in LA.
next there's a 1-color screenprint version of it, some bits of which were used in the final poster.

and it in LA somewhere (Meltdown Comics? thanks kat morris.)-

and here's the last screenprint i'd made. it was 5 colors: sky blue, teal, orange, black, and straight gloss. you can't see the gloss layer in low or indirect light. but point a camera flash at it and it suddenly gets really spooky for that kid. luckily he's got that ghost sword to protect him.

ok, that's all for now. hope you enjoy!

Short Film of the Week!

hey!  just wanted to let everyone know Alpha-9 was put up on bestforfilm.com as the short film of the week.  There's a short interview on it and some pics.  check it out!

also, here's a screenprint plan i was working on tonight.  this only shows a close-up of three layers to get colors.  this print may be a little weird when you see the full thing and all 5 colors.  then again, it could not turn out at all!  screenprinting is awesome.

screenprint for sale!

hey guys, i've been figuring out how to screenprint recently with the lovely people at post expose in brooklyn, and i just finished a 13x19 4-color print. i made an edition of 40, which i'm selling if anyone's interested, for $30 (+$10 shipping, unless you're in the nyc area). also, there are about 20 more prints that are less than perfect for less $$.  to make it confusing, i used 3 different papers to test it out.  my favorite is the beige, but all of them turned out really awesome.

email me if you're interested and we can set up some kind of paypal thing and i'll get it sent out to you. thanks!

See what I've been up to all year!

I finally updated my demo reel to show the last modge-podge year and a half of work I've been up to. This is just the animation and direction work, unfortunately there's none of the storyboarding work here. The song is from the Black lips. Enjoy!

kids are the best audience ever

My Film was recently screened in A small Festival in La Roche Sur Yon, France, and apparently the Children's Jury there decided to write me a letter telling me how much they liked my film. This is so cool dude, adults would never do this!

Dear Mister Amstrong,
we really loved your movie. When we were told that it was your first movie, we were really impressed : it looked really good! The movie is really funny, we all loved the idea of saying that the monster could be really nice! We were really moved when it was alone with all the bodies of the space invadors he would have loved to play longer with!
We really hope that you will make another movie because this one was great, and we are already looking forward to watch it!
Sincerely,

La Roche Sur Yon's Child Jury

Original Message:

Cher Monsieur Amstrong,
Cordialement,

Le Jury Adolescent du Festival International du Film de La Roche Sur Yon

finally colored...

i drew this one in may, finally inked it in june, and have been dicking around with the color ever since.  i feel that it's either as good as it can get or just needs to be done, but either way i'm pretty happy with it i think.  it was done across two pages of a 3x5 sketchbook.  let me know what you think!
